Choose the degree that is right for you

Texas A&M Law isn’t just for aspiring lawyers. In addition to our nationally ranked JD program, we offer an LLM degree for non-US lawyers seeking an American law degree and for US lawyers seeking a specialized advanced degree. We also offer a 30-credit MLS degree and 12-credit graduate legal certificates for non-lawyer professionals who need some legal training, but who do not plan to practice law.

Juris Doctor Degree (JD)

Earn your law degree at Texas A&M, a top 30 law school where our first priority is to provide you with a world-class legal education at a great value and to set you up for a successful career as a lawyer. You can study law in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex, one of the country’s most livable cities and largest and fastest growing legal markets.

Master of Laws Degree (LLM)

Our on-campus LLM program allows graduates of foreign law schools to take classes alongside our JD students and to earn a credential that allows them to sit for the bar exam in Texas and elsewhere. Our flexible online LLM program is for those who have a U.S. law degree and would like to advance their career by gaining access to the world-wide Aggie network of over 500,000 alumni. You can customize your curriculum, or pursue one of our six areas of concentration. We also offer a specialized LLM in Intellectual Property.

Master of Legal Studies Degree (MLS)

Our online Master of Legal Studies degree provides specialized legal training for those who don’t plan on practicing law, but would benefit from knowledge of the law and enhanced problem-solving skills. Geared toward degreed, non-lawyer professionals who work in highly regulated or complex industries, there are more than a dozen tracks to help you gain a professional advantage. We also offer an on-campus MLS in Intellectual Property or General Studies and a hybrid MLS at our San Antonio location.
“The faculty and staff at Texas A&M Law have helped me prepare for my legal career by embodying the six Aggie core values. My professors were well-versed in their fields and enthusiastic about teaching. Pairing wonderful professors with challenging curricula allowed me to grow and develop critical lawyering skills that helped me secure my Summer Associate position at White & Case.”

Highly Ranked Programs & Centers

At Texas A&M Law, we’re advancing scholarship and shaping the law through highly ranked programs and nationally acclaimed centers focused on topics like intellectual property law, dispute resolution, and energy, environmental, and natural resource systems law.

Combining scholarly inquiry with practical, hands-on experience is a crucial component to a quality legal education. While most of the formal experiential learning opportunities are geared toward students earning a JD, students across all degrees benefit from our centers and programs.

Intellectual Property Law

Texas A&M Law’s Intellectual Property Law (IP) program consistently ranks in the top ten nationally. Intellectual property is a vital part of protecting creativity and innovation in today’s society. Students have a wealth of resources for both in-class and practical training through the Center for Law and Intellectual Property (CLIP) as well as our Entrepreneurship, Patent, and Trademark & Copyright clinics.

Aggie Dispute Resolution

Ranked as the #1 dispute resolution program in Texas and #7 in the nation, our Dispute Resolution program infuses the fundamental skills of negotiation, mediation, and arbitration into the broader curriculum. With around 95% of legal cases nationwide resolving through out-of-court dispute resolution, these skills are critical for any lawyer, regardless of practice area or career path.

Environmental & Natural Resource Law

The environmental impact of law and policy is significant and requires a broad, interdisciplinary approach. Texas A&M Law’s Energy, Environmental, and Natural Resource Systems Law Program (EENRSLP) addresses issues related to exploitation, management, conservation, and research on natural resources to explore solutions to the global climate crisis with other disciplines and communities.

Practical Learning Opportunities & Experiential Education

At Texas A&M School of Law, we believe that hands-on, experiential learning is just as critical to a legal education as learning the letter of the law. Our commitment to ensuring our JD graduates enter the workforce practice-ready is evident in the number of centers, institutes, and programs that offer opportunities to learn the law in a real-world setting.

Clinical Opportunities

With more than a dozen options available from civil rights to trademarks and copyrights, there’s something for everyone. Clinic clients include entrepreneurs, nonprofits, government entities, and individuals who have trouble finding legal help elsewhere, and students will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge of the law to actual cases.

Advocacy Program

Our nationally recognized moot court, mock trial, and Aggie Dispute Resolution (ADR) teams are focused not just on teaching oral advocacy skills through competition, but also through lawyer skills training that focuses on ensuring our law students are courtroom- and dispute resolution-ready.

Global Programs

Olur Global Programs equip students to practice law both domestically and abroad in a time when the global marketplace is increasingly involved in legal matters. The three-credit, two-semester Global Lawyering Field Course allows participants to study a particular topic while conducting field work in countries such as the Cayman Islands, Israel, Ghana, Cambodia, Scotland, and more.

Professionalism & Leadership

The Professionalism & Leadership Program (PLP) at Texas A&M School of Law provides you a well-rounded education and multi-dimensional experience, beyond legal theory and the classroom — skills and values such as integrity, persuasive communication, service to the community, teamwork, ethics, business & entrepreneurial acumen.

Legal Analysis, Research and Writing

One of the cornerstones of a legal education is legal analysis, research and writing. Our goal is to teach you to think and write like a lawyer through learning effective research techniques, applying logic, and presenting a well-reasoned argument. Aggie law students will graduate with at least eight credits in LARW and a portfolio of work that will travel with you into your career.

Equal Justice Pro Bono

All JD students complete a minimum 30-hour pro bono requirement that helps them gain an appreciation for the importance of giving back to the community and improving access to legal services. You’ll practice lawyering skills while making connections with potential mentors, employers and others who can help plan and advance your career.

Online Learning

In today’s world, we understand that flexibility in learning is paramount. Our LLM, MLS, and graduate certificates offer online learning options giving you the opportunity to get your degree on your terms. Online classes are specifically created to accommodate distance learners. We don’t just stick a camera in the back of the classroom and call it a day. We use state-of-the-art online teaching and learning techniques to ensure the same quality education your on-campus counterparts enjoy.

Certificates for Non-Lawyers

Our online certificates are designed for professionals with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent who are interested in understanding the legal aspects of their industry without the monetary and time commitment of a full master’s degree. In most cases, credits are stackable toward an MLS degree.

Find Dedicated Support

At Texas A&M Law, we value our students, their wellbeing, and their needs — both in and out of the classroom — while embarking on your law school journey. We offer an Academic Support program throughout all three years, including a special focus on 1Ls; bar exam prep courses, advising, and boot camps; support for needs and issues outside of school through the Office of Student Affairs; and internship and job counseling from the Career Services staff. We’re always here to support you.
