Professor Calboli Elected to the European Law Institute

Professor Irene Calboli was elected to the European Law Institute (ELI) in December. ELI is an independent organization headquartered in Vienna that focuses on European legal development in a global context. Founded in 2011, the institute was inspired by the American Law Institute (ALI), of which Professor Calboli has been a member of since 2015.

ELI’s activities and projects span all branches of the law: substantive and procedural; private and public. Its individual members stem from the bar, bench, academia, and other legal professions. Additionally, ELI has several institutional members, including the European Parliament, the Court of Justice of the European Union, the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), and the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT).

Much of its work has influenced the European legislature as well as shaped laws at the national and international levels.

Professor Calboli, a Texas A&M Regents Professor, teaches intellectual property law. Her current research focuses on the interplay between intellectual property protection, international trade, and sustainable development.

In Europe, she also serves as an expert to the European Union Intellectual Property Office and the European Commission. She closely collaborates with the Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property and Competition Law and several European universities, including the University of Geneva, SciecePo Paris, Bocconi University, Jagiellonian University, IE University, Hanken University, and the University of Alicante.
