Fee Adjustments for Courses Dropped and Added

Course Drop Periods

  • During the first five days of a fall or spring semester (first four days of a summer term), students can drop courses.·
  • Drops with special dean permission are possible between the 6th and 12th class days.

Refunds and Enrollment

  • Full refunds are granted for courses dropped within the specified periods, as long as the student remains enrolled in at least one class.
  • No refunds for classes dropped after the 12th class day.
  • Credit balance resulting from course drops will be refunded after the fifth class day.

Withdrawal Process

  • Starting from the first day of the semester, students can’t drop all courses via drop/add; official withdrawal requires a visit to the office of the Law School Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
  • More information on withdrawal policy and procedures below.

Course Addition

  • Students can add courses during the first seven days of a fall or spring semester.

Withdrawal from the University

Once the University has accepted payment for tuition and fees, a student is considered officially enrolled unless otherwise restricted from enrolling.

Official law school withdrawals are processed through the office of the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs. Failure to follow procedures for withdrawing from the law school may result in financial penalties and delays with future enrollment in the University. Stopping payment on a check for fees or allowing the check to be returned unpaid by the bank for any reason does not constitute an official withdrawal. Once a student registers, he or she is responsible for the total fees assessed regardless of whether the installment option is used. Refund percentages are applied to total fees assessed and not amount paid. This means that students who withdraw before paying all installments may, in the event of withdrawal, still owe the University.

International students

Contact the International Student Services Office at 979.845.1824 or iss@tamu.edu before withdrawing to determine if doing so will affect their visa status.

Financial Aid Recipients

Talk to a Financial Aid Counselor before withdrawing.

Withdrawal Policies and Financial Implications:
Students with Scholarships and Financial Aid must understand University withdrawal policies aligned with Federal regulations. Tuition, fees, and optional charges determine refunds and potential grant/loan repayments.

Refunds for Title IV and State Aid Recipients:
Federal rules necessitate pro-rata refund calculations for new students receiving Title IV and certain State aid who withdraw within a payment period (semester). Refund calculation span may extend up to 60% of the payment period.

Holding Credit Balances and Account Closure:
Following an official university withdrawal, any credit balance on student accounts remains held for 30 days. This allows for comprehensive charge and fine assessment from various departments before processing refunds.
